Are You Hungry?

It's time to reconnect with your hunger folks. What does that mean? It means actually listening to your body. Being a little bit hungry is a good thing. You need to have that mind-body connection. If you don't ever feel hunger then you won't be able to recognize when you are satiated.

So the clock struck 12pm. Big deal! Does that mean you automatically reach for the fridge? What is your internal clock saying?

I used to do what I called "chipmunk eating". This was basically storing it up for later. Perhaps I knew I wouldn't have time to eat later or there wouldn't be anything I liked. Whatever the reason, I was eating when I wasn't actually hungry to prevent hunger from coming.

We don't want to prevent hunger though! You need to feel that hunger to make the connection. I know many of you have bought into the diets that tell you to eat every 2 to 3 hours. That may be appropriate for some people (especially if you suffer from dips in your blood sugar). However, for most of you, eating every 2-3 hours prevents hunger from actually coming. That is eating by the clock on the wall instead of what your body is telling you.

So pause next time you are about to eat something, make sure you are legitimately hungry and then thank your body for sending you signals so you can take care of it properly.

Reach out if you ever need any guidance or just want to say "hi".
