Give Your Metabolism a Kick in the Ass!

Do you feel like you are doing everything right but can't seem to lose weight? Perhaps your metabolism is taking a beat? Let's kick it into high gear with a few easy steps.

  1. Drink cold water- When you drink a cup of ice water, you increase your metabolism by about 44% for a couple of hours.  Your body works hard to increase the temperature of the ice water to your body temperature. So drink up!
  2. Increase your muscle mass - I am not saying you need to become a major weight lifter, but increased muscle mass definitely improves your metabolism. So perhaps strap on some ankle weights when you take that bike ride or walk. Try to do little spurts of activity at various points in the day. In other words, just get off your butt!
  3. Sleep your way to skinny - Get at least 7 hours a night. Remove all electronics from your bedroom. Avoid eating before bed. No coffee or alcohol before bed as well. You want nothing that will stimulate you (does not include sex which can help with both #2 and #3).
