Spice it Up!!

Last week I wrote about kicking the sugar habit. One way to cut back is eliminating bottled sauces. I wanted to delve more into some great alternatives.

So you like things spicy, eh? I agree! Instead of reaching for a hot sauce though check out a great alternative.

Dried Chili Peppers - You can grab a whole dried pepper or do what I do and reach for my handy red chili pepper flakes or ground cayenne pepper. Peppers contain capsaicin, which activates thermogenesis and promotes weight loss. It's the perfect spice to heat up a dish without adding in a lot of calories and sugar like you would if you used a hot sauce.

Want to sweeten things up a bit? Instead of sugar check this out!

Cinnamon or Raw Honey- Take that sugar and perhaps add in some coconut oil and make a body scrub out of it, just don't ingest it. Reach instead for cinnamon or honey to sweeten up your coffee or baked goods. Both honey and cinnamon are full of antioxidants which is beneficial in the fight against inflammation. I actually drizzle honey and cayenne pepper on my salmon before I air fry it. Wow, it is so good!

Toss the ketchup and make a sugar-free version.

Homemade Ketchup- So you love to dip things in ketchup eh? Do you have any idea how much sugar goes into those store-bought brands? Take a can of tomato paste, add in 1/4 tsp of garlic powder, 1/2 tsp of salt, 1/2 tsp of raw honey and a 1/4 tsp of smoked or sweet paprika. Stir in 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar and you are good to go.

Reach out if you need help creating those healthy habits. My number one goal is to help my clients feel like themselves again.
