Fun Beyond Food

When was the last time you went out and it didn't involve food? When did you last make plans to see your family or friends where a meal wasn't involved? Food has become, or perhaps it always has been, our main source of entertainment. We center our plans around it. Where should we go this weekend? Let's make a reservation.

I was just discussing this very dilemma with a client. She mentioned her friends were coming into town and their entire plan together was centered around food.

Perhaps eating out doesn't have to be the main social activity. Perhaps it doesn't have to involve a huge caloric intake. Do you have any idea how many calories you are ingesting in just one glass of wine (about 200 - do you stop at one?) or in one mixed drink (200 to 800 - not kidding). Happy hour isn't looking so happy anymore is it?

My point isn't to say don't go out. I do it too. I am a total foodie! I love eating out, but I also think there are other activities that could be fun as well that perhaps do not involve a huge caloric intake.

There are so many fun things going on out there people! A few weeks ago I went to see a comedian, any Seinfeld fans in the house? He was hilarious. Maybe comedy isn't up your alley. I have a few more suggestions...

Paddle boarding - my most zen thing

Biking - take a long and leisurely ride

Beach - hello people! It's right there!

Dancing- if you don't know how to then dance lessons are super fun

Mini Golf- flashbacks to being 13...still enjoyable

Roller Skating- another flashback that still rocks!

Bowling - an old past time that is still fun and burns calories!

Movies - have you seen the nominated films yet? (no popcorn needed)

Rent Segways - I love this! It's not just for mall cops!

Escape room - ok, I have tried to escape on 4 separate occasions and have yet to manage.

Ropes course - technically I chickened out on the first obstacle, but perhaps you will have better luck and break a sweat while doing it

Live music - it's everywhere!

So that was just to get you thinking. I definitely want to hear back if you have any ideas that do not involve food as the main source of entertainment. The big takeaway - get out there and do something fun and active!
